Heating & Cooling for Obsidian Security’s New Head Office – On Budget, On Time

Obsidian Security Limited were after a cost effective solution for the cooling and heating of its new Head Offices in Maidstone. The project requirement was for a 1st floor mezzanine office that avoided the installation of many air-conditioning ceiling units.

The design of the ventilation was relatively straight forward once the final building design and working areas had been finally agreed!  An inverter driven, concealed ducted heat pump system  (13kW cooling / 16 kW heating) by Fujitsu was fitted to the exterior of the building with a range of insulated steel ducting, suspended within the ceiling void going from the rear of the offices towards the front. Air enters the workspace via a range of multi-directional outlet grilles fitted into the suspended ceiling.

The system serves the 1st floor offices and the meeting room and is perfectly balanced to provide adequate heating, cooling and fresh air to all spaces.  This is adjustable by means of a wall mounted controller.

As there was the opportunity to design into the build our aesthetic needs, the choice was made after much research into various alternatives and suppliers to have a ducted single zone system installed by Proaircon.

Clever Trevor and his team were very patient with our many changes in requirement at the outset of the project in November 2011!  Trevor took into consideration our requirements and financial constraints, whilst also considering performance and running costs.  The project ran reasonably smoothly without too much interaction from us, as Trevor liaised directly with our appointed builders and electricians to establish when the building was at the correct stage for each part of the ventilation system to be installed.  We would recommend their services.
